Just when you thought you were rid of me… 😉
Today’s long awaited blog post comes at the height of awards season. After discovering a spectacular company called The Black Tux, I decided I will be provide a few of my ideal picks of looks that we could potentially see our favourite leading men wearing on the red carpet.
Taking a look at the two major events, the 58th Grammy Awards Ceremony on the 15th of February as well as the 88th Academy Awards Ceremony on the 28th of February. (mark those dates in your calendar’s folks!)
For each respect ceremony have selected 2 leading men.
For the 58th Grammy Awards:
- Kendrick Lamar (11 nominations)
- The Weeknd (7 nominations)
For the 88th Academy Awards:
- Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant –Actor in a leading role)
- Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl – Actor in a leading role)
To start, I felt it best to take a look at their awards season style in the past; specifically from their last attendance at either ceremony. From there I will allocate my ideal suit selection.
The 58th Grammy Awards
For the 56th Grammy Awards, Kendrick donned a bold blue suit.He looked clean cut, almost naive to music and style. Not to say it was a bad pick, it was a great pick but this time around he will need to up his game. With 11 nominations, Kendrick is high on the radar this season and will want to present himself in the most sophisticated manner. I personally feel that he’ll want to step up his game and go for a look that is slightly more polished.
This charcoal suit by The Black Tux is classic. It’s not trying too hard to exude status and I feel that neither will Kendrick. Will he wear a tie? Maybe not. Perhaps he’ll even opt for a t-shirt instead of a button down. He’ll add his own style ethos to it but I certainly feel it could work for him.
The Weeknd (Abęl Tesfaye) has found himself nominated for 7 Grammy Awards, and with this being his second time being nominated it will be great for the artist to make a style statement. Having already opted for the sleek black suit with white tie, he should opt for something as classy but more defined.
This midnight blue tuxedo by The Black Tux might seem like a bit of a stretch but I certainly think he could pull it off. With that wild hair, this suit will combine his own style dynamic with a hint of formality. I do feel he could repeat the black button shirt and potentially ditch the bow tie, but the cut of the tux as well as the lustrous elements of it make it a winner.
The 88th Academy Awards
Oh Leo, maybe this year will finally be your year. Unlike his diverse acting ability, Leo is somewhat a creature of habit when it comes to dressing for the Academy Awards. It seems he likes to maintain a sense classic charm. This year shouldn’t be too different – Leo is certainly on everyone’s minds and with the question looming whether he will win or not, he will want to look his utmost best.
This dapper Notched Lapel Tuxedo by The Black Tux is a beaut! Quite like Leo, it is simple and handsome but with so much fine detail. I feel this wide open blazer, with a smooth but notched lapel will be just what Leo needs. He will want to look as manly and refined as always and after his powerful role in The Revenant, a good clean look is certainly in order.
What’s not to love about Eddie Redmayne? His style is so unique and so subtly and tastefully shows of his Brit status. For the 87th Academy Awards in 2015, Redmayne opted for a spectacular navy suit by McQueen. This year I feel he could for something a little more extravagant (although I’m not sure there is much that could top this gorgeous tux, I’m a tad obsessed with it). Eddie is up against Leo for his role in The Danish Girl and quite like Leo he will want his look to be on point.
The Black Velvet Tuxedo by The Black Tux, is there anything more lavish? This sensational blazer just oozes style and sophistication and Eddie will want to establish himself as a man of class on the evening. It is one of the most poised events of the year and Eddie will certainly dominate the red carpet in this luxe tux.
Will these four men prove that I have even the slightest idea of what I’m talking about or will I need to go back to the proverbial drawing board? Either way, I look forward to seeing their looks on the red carpet.
As a little treat, I am going to show what my personal ideal red carpet looks for these prestige events would be.
A simple what if,
The 58th Grammy Awards
Because the Grammy’s is a big night, I would opt for something intricate and gorgeous like this detailed halterneck by Atelier Versace. I would however, remove the belt and opt for a slim belt to subtly cinch the waist.
The 88th Academy Awards
I am in absolute awe when it comes to this Carolina Herrera Spring 2016 dress. Yes, I know it is ready-to-wear but there is something so effortless, so defined and poised about this pale pink number. With a swept-up hairdo and diamond earrings, you wouldn’t need anything more. This dress would certainly be my number one award season pick.
To end off, I would love to credit The Black Tux for giving me this opportunity. If you’re ever in need of great suit or tuxedo rental and you just happen to be in the Santa Monica area, then definitely pay them a visit.
