DIY Christmas Decor

When it comes to Christmas, I think it’s pretty obvious by now that it’s my favourite holiday. The unfortunate thing is that it gets really expensive and before you know it you’re broke. Luckily, there are so many ways around this! If you haven’t seen my previous post, it’s all about budget Christmas gift ideas and this post is all about decor. While the title says Christmas, it’s actually Chrismukkah. Yes, that’s right – in our home we celebrate Chrismukkah. Not sure what I’m talking about? Check out this post – All about Chrismukkah.

Here you’ll find 3 DIY Christmas decor ideas that are easy to make and incredibly cost effective.

DIY Christmas Decor: JOY Bottles

What you’ll need:

  • 3 empty wine bottles
  • Spray paint
  • Hessian fabric/any fabric
  • Cardboard

Once you’ve finished 3 bottles of wine (don’t deny, you can totally do it.) you can rinse them and let them dry. Once they’re dry, pick a spray paint colour of choice and spray all 3 bottles and leave to dry. While the bottles dry, cut 3 strips of fabric to wrap around the bottle. After that you can cut out from cardboard the letters you want to add. When the spray paint has dried, attach the fabric with glue and then add the individual letters.

DIY Christmas Decor: Star of David ornament

What you’ll need:

  • Ice lolly sticks
  • Glue
  • Ribbon
  • Spray paint
  • Glitter

Using ice lolly sticks, glue three sticks together to form 2 triangles. Once the 2 triangles have dried, glue them to each other with a point facing up and another pointing down. When the glue has dried, spray paint the star and let dry. Use the glitter to decorate the star and the ribbon to be able to hang the star from your Christmas tree.

DIY Christmas Decor: Christmas Stockings

What you’ll need:

  • Felt fabric
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Needle and thread

Fold your felt in half, draw on a desired stocking shape and then cut out the shapes. Place the felt cut outs right-side facing and stitch them together or stitch them wrong side facing and stitch them together. (See video to better understand). Once the stocking has been made, use felt to decorate the stocking and use the glue to stick down the decor.

  • Great ideas! I’ve been wanting to make my own Christmas decor for a while, I love wood, so I want to try encorporate that into it. My big project is trying to make a wooden Christmas tree out of dowel sticks, but finding time is challenging!

    • That would be stunning!! If you do end up making it please post pics!
