Many of the celebrity style icons that we know and love today, have not always been as chic as they are now. Over the years, with the help of great stylists and evolving trends they have been able to refine their style and create looks that work for them. It is quite comforting, it gives me hope that I will be able to refine myself and look as chic as all the style icons I know and love.
To avoid being too subjective of my own preferences, we will take a look at one of my good friend’s Lauren Voges’ three style icons. We will take a look at their style evolution through the years.
Today we take a brief look at…
The X-files: Style Evolution
When it comes to style, it is never clean cut. Certain looks are either a hit or a miss and when it comes to the following three stars, their styles have each evolved in different ways. It is not to say that it has only become better with time, because everyone has their off days but certainly for the most part they have improved.
The first style icon we have is:
A young Lively made her debut red carpet appearance at the 18th Annual Teen Choice Awards in April of 2005.
A shiny Lively at the premiere of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in 2005.
The beginning of a great style future – Blake Lively glowed in a white dress with mermaid hair in 2006 at the CW Upfronts.
Lively looking absolutely radiant in a slightly dull but chic yellow gown while at the ‘7th On Sale’ gala at the 69th Regiment Armory in 2007.
Va-va voom!! Lively wowed in teal at the the 2009 Met Gala .
Not her greatest look, Lively attended a Chanel dinner hosted in her honor during Paris Fashion Week in 2011.
Eek, a second bad style choice. (But why Chanel??) Blake at a Chanel Resort dinner in May of 2011.
And we’re back on track!! Lively arrived at the Los Angeles Premiere of her movie Savages in 2012 wearing a gown that proved she has what it takes to be a style icon.
Nooo not again! This overly-sparkly number that Lively wore to the Mr.Turner premiere in 2014 is a definite no-no.
Luckily we can count on Lively to amaze us in the end. She wears this boldly coloured ensemble to Good Morning America in April 2015.
Claire Danes in 1995, sporting a style that was not unlike that of her character Angela Chase in “My So-Called Life.”
A slightly more classic look: Claire Danes attends the 52nd Annual Golden Globe Awards in 1995.
So this is definitely not her finest style moment, Danes at the ‘Romeo + Juliet’ Hollywood Premiere in 1996 at Mann’s Chinese Theatre.
Again Danes opts for an uhm classic look when she attended the 18th Annual CFDA American Fashion Awards in 1999 at The Armory in New York City.
What a way to start developing her golden girl iconic style status, Danes at the 2003 CFDA Fashion Awards.
A lilac dream come true, Danes makes a great style choice at the 62nd Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in 2005.
A feminine boho-chic turn in her style, Danes poses as she arrives for the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Launch Party On in 2006.
There’s the style icon we know and love! Attending the Costume Institute Gala Benefit to celebrate the opening of the ‘American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity’ exhibition in 2010.
It just gets better and better, at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2013.
She truly has blossomed into an elegant fashion star, as she dons this gorgeous dress at the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
A far cry from the icon we know today, Mara At the Hamptons International Film Festival in 2009. Can we talk about those stockings and shoes?!
A sweet girl-next-door look at the Dare premiere in 2009.
Is that an apron? Um.. Mara seen at the premiere of the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street in 2010.
Talk about a change! After her role in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Mara was seen wearing this one shoulder number with a rather unique look in 2011.
A modern day goth glam girl, Mara makes her look work for her at the Rodarte show during New York Fashion Week 2011.
Mara knew how to embrace her dark and dramatic look by contrasting it at the 2011 CFDA Awards.
A real style queen, Mara rocked the semi-nude look at the 2012 Dubai International Film Festival.
The great thing about Mara is that she wear dresses that not all women can like this sheer white number at the the premiere of Her during the Rome Film Festival in 2013.
Talk about a wow-factor! Mara looked breathtaking at the 10th Annual Dubai International Film Festival in 2013.
Now frumpy is just not a look that works, ever. Mara not looking her best at the at the Calvin Klein spring/summer 2015 show.
Here’s hoping she finds her way again, at the Vanity Fair and Fiat Celebration of Young Hollywood 2015, Mara wears a rather confusing look.
So after all of those style flash backs, it is definitely safe to say that not every style choice we make is a smart style choice. Sometimes we hit it and sometimes we miss it but over all it is great to see individual style at work. No two women really ever dress the same and that’s what makes us unique.
